Playback
Two engines, chosen per file, so nothing needs a server transcode and a NAS without a GPU stays quiet.
An mp4, m4v or mov with H.264 or HEVC video and AAC, AC-3, E-AC-3, MP3, ALAC or FLAC audio goes to Apple’s player, which keeps HDR and Dolby Vision intact. Everything else, MKV included, goes to VLC. AV1 is requested from the server as a transcode because the VLC decoder cannot handle it safely. You can pin either engine in Settings.
Find Subtitles searches the server’s remote providers, then OpenSubtitles and Podnapisi directly, and uploads the .srt to the server so every device has it. Text subtitles resize and shift in the player. Graphic subtitles are never burned in by the server; the client renders them.
Pick the audio and subtitle track in the player, set a playback speed, and set a preferred audio language so a multi-audio file starts on yours. The server is told which tracks are playing, so its own stats stay right.
Jellyfin Media Segments drive the Skip pills, Next Up auto-advances the series, and scrubbing shows trickplay thumbnails from the server. Auto-skip can run by itself on every platform.
Pause a film for as long as you like. On resume the app rebuilds the stream from your position rather than letting a dropped connection stall it, and your position is reported to the server so Continue Watching is right on every device.
On iPhone, iPad and Mac the video pops into Picture in Picture while you use other apps. Send it to an Apple TV or an AirPlay speaker from iPhone and iPad.
Library
A backdrop hero, Continue Watching first, then your latest movies and episodes and your libraries, on every platform. Pin a genre, a collection, a person or a watch list to Home.
Backdrop, synopsis, ratings, cast and crew, More Like This, every episode of a show, and a Playback Info panel that says whether a title will direct play or transcode before you press play.
Search matches Latin and Cyrillic spellings and the original title alongside the server’s localized one, so a Serbian library finds the English name and the other way around.
Ordered watch lists that mix films and shows with progress, Continue on your lists, favorites, and A to Z, filters and sort on every library grid.
Live TV
Your Jellyfin channels and the EPG, on Apple TV, Mac, iPad and iPhone, with the same player and the same subtitles.
One-off timers and series rules with padding before and after, keep-up-to-N, and recordings that play like anything else in the library.
Music, photos, books
Albums, artists, playlists and songs with a queue, shuffle and repeat, system Now Playing, lock screen controls, background audio, and a music bar or mini player on the Mac. The same music interface as NaviBeat, NaviFin’s sister app for Navidrome.
